"The Compass" First Annual Compass Conference Funded and managed by The City Wire and presented by Benefit Bank, The Compass is a quarterly regional economic report with data collection and analysis handled by Jeff Collins, a nationally known economist based in Springdale and co-founder of Streetsmart Data Services. Cox Communications and the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce are also sponsors of The Compass.
The U.S. Census Bureau
has now released the first local area data from the 2007 Economic
Census. The data are for states, counties, cities and metro
areas in ten states in the West and New England, and include retail trade, accommodations, and rental
and leasing sectors, among others.

John Womack Named Chairman and CEO of Arvest Bank in Central Arkansas

announced today that John Womack, currently president of its banking operations
in Fort Smith, will become chairman and chief executive officer of Arvest’s

EMT program at ATU-Ozark meets national standards The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational programs recently certified that the Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic Program at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus has completed an accreditation review and was found to be in compliance with the nationally established standards.
The Center for Business and Professional Development at
the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is offering non-credit information
technology classes and a class in finance and accounting for nonfinancial
managers in July.
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith has now added a
video link to the May commencement story on UA Fort Smith's website to allow
site visitors to click on the speech made by guest speaker Neal Pendergraft.

Cornerstone Clinic and Internal Medicine & Associates Get Physical for the Community Hundreds of students in Crawford County will begin athletic programs in the fall and all of them must pass a physical in order to participate. This year the staff at Cornerstone Clinic and Internal Medicine & Associates, clinics operated by Summit Medical Center, volunteered to conduct the physicals free of charge for all Van Buren, Mountainburg and Cedarville students.
