8/6/2008 IEC has successful first year
Michelle Stockman hit the ground running in 2007 and hasn't slowed down yet. As executive director of the new Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center in Fort Smith, she has amassed quite a list of first-year accomplishments for the IEC.
7/21/2008 PRADCO announces Chaffee Crossing expansion
PRADCO Fishing, the world's leader in fishing lure manufacturing, announced its plans to build a new 300,000 square foot facility at Chaffee Crossing during a ground breaking ceremony hosted by the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce and attended by Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe on July 21, 2008.

8/19/2008 Arvest breaks ground in Van Buren
Today Arvest celebrated the official groundbreaking of their newest location in Van Buren. The ceremony took place at 3105 Alma (64) Hwy. It is Arvest Bank's intent to relocate the branch now located at 90 Cloverleaf Plaza to the new location upon it's completion, estimated to be during the 1st quarter of 2009.
8/19/2008 Sebastian County Solid Waste Division to open e-waste facility
Dale Alimena, and Ivey Owen announce the development of the only computer recycling and processing center in the State of Arkansas. Starting with the purchase of four acres of land, including a 13,500 square foot building, located at Chaffee Crossing, the eWaste center will be developed specifically to handle the proper and legitimate disposal of computers, and other electronic equipment, that contain both environmentally hazardous chemicals and reusable natural resources.

8/18/2008 WATC makes pharmacy tech available to students
High school WATC students at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith who complete the two-year Advanced Health program now have the option of certifying as pharmacy technicians, WATC's newest addition.
8/15/2008 Ballet to hold Nutcracker auditions
Western Arkansas Ballet, a nonprofit performing arts organization, will hold open auditions for the 23rd annual Nutcracker, to be performed December 13 at the Arkansas Best Corporation Performing Arts Center in Fort Smith at 10:30 am and 7:30 pm. Open Audition meaning anyone over the age of 6 that has had at least 2 years experience in dance and/or gymnastics is eligible to audition.

The City of Fort Smith, Arkansas, has demonstrated vision and leadership, using ESRI's geographic information system (GIS) technology to better serve the world. To recognize this passionate approach to applying GIS solutions, ESRI will present the organization with the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award on August 6, 2008, at the 28th Annual ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC) in San Diego, California.

Dr. Pamela Gaborni will join the St. Edward Mercy Home, Hospice & Palliative Care team August 1, 2008 as medical director. She will be instrumental in the continued growth of the clinical programs at St. Edward Mercy in her new role.

St. Edward Mercy Hospice Inpatient Unit was licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health effective July 9, 2008.
7/16/2008 St. Edward NICU hosts golf tournament
The fourth-annual Birdies Fore Babies Golf Tournament, hosted by the St. Edward Mercy Foundation, will benefit the St. Edward Mercy Medical Center Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
7/15/2008 St. Ed names president of St. Edward Clinic
Dr. Robert Patton has been named president and chief executive officer of St. Edward Mercy Clinic effective July 14. The Clinic is a subsidiary of the St. Edward Mercy Health System. Dr. Patton will serve in an administrative capacity for the Clinic by serving as president and CEO as well as working in a clinical capacity by practicing part time in the Emergency Department at St. Edward Mercy.
7/14/2008 Mexican Consul to speak at UA Fort Smith
The Aug. 28 speaker in the Distinguished Global Speaker Series at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith will be Consul Andres Chao, who moved to Arkansas last year to head the Mexican Consulate of Little Rock.

Breathing Easier Together, a smoking cessation program hosted by the St. Edward Mercy Health System, is expanding its services to Scott and Crawford Counties. The previous program covered only Sebastian County.

The Arkansas Municipal League elected new officers on Friday, June 20, the final day of its 74th annual Convention in Hot Springs including Fort Smith City Director Gary Campbell.

7/7/2008 WATC receives $150,000 state grant
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith has been awarded a five-year $150,000 Youth Apprenticeship Grant through the Arkansas Department of Workforce Education for use with welding students in the Western Arkansas Technical Center, according to Roy Hester of Clarksville, WATC director.

6/19/2008 Control Technologies earns certification milestone
Fort Smith-based Control Technologies, Inc. (CTI), the oldest and largest control system integrator in northwestern Arkansas, has been honored as the 100th member of the Control System Integrators Association (CSIA) to achieve Certified status. The company, as well as its founder and president, Craig R. Pair, received the award at the recent CSIA Executive Conference, held in Savannah, Georgia.
